Trust is the ultimate selling factor in business and marketing plays a key role in building trust and effectively communicating with your audience. Today, I would love to share with you some tidbits of advice on how to use a ring light for your videos.
A ring light is a lighting fixture in the shape of a ring that may consist of small, high-intensity bulbs, or it may include one large, circular fluorescent bulb. The halo shape helps diffuse light over a wider area, reducing shadows and minimizing blemishes. In addition, it makes your videos look clearer and more professional.
Ring lights are generally available in two formats: strobe and constant. Constant lights work best for videos while strobe lights are better suited for still images.
Set up a ring light: If you are using a smartphone or a digital camera to create a video, the ideal placement is at the center of the ring light. If you are using a laptop camera, be sure to position the light above the upper edge of the screen so that your face is illuminated properly.
Adjust color temperature: Some ring light models come with controls for the color temperature. The higher the temperature, the cooler the image will appear. Play around with different settings to see which one you like best. If your ring light doesn’t have a color temperature control, you can shop for color filters that attach to the front of the light.
Change brightness: Models with multiple brightness levels allow you to adjust the lighting to your environment. A good rule of thumb is that the brighter you set the light, the sharper and more vibrant your footage will be. The best dimmable lights will let you adjust the brightness in 1% increments.
